FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATES:

On April 9, the Escondido Police and Fire Communication Center received a report of a possible fire in a row of detached garages at the 2000 block of E Grand Ave. The first arriving engine reported a single-story row of garages with smoke coming from several garage doors. The fire was upgraded to a working commercial fire.

Aggressive action by the firefighters contained and controlled the fire in approximately 60 minutes. The fire extensively damaged 1 garage and spread to 3 other attached garages. The additional garages had minor damage. The fire did not extend into any apartments. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On April 13, the Escondido Police and Fire Communication Center received a report of a residential structure fire on Lee Drive in Escondido. The first arriving Engine Company reported heavy smoke from the garage and attic. Further investigation revealed a well-established fire in the attached garage with smoke throughout the living space and attic.

Aggressive firefighting contained the fire to the garage. Although the primary living space was undamaged, damage to gas and electrical service in the garage required disconnection of all utilities to the home. Firefighters remained on scene for approximately 1 hour performing smoke removal, salvage, and overhaul of the garage contents. No Firefighters or civilians were injured during the incident.
